Inside Europe’s Leading Extradition Forum: Highlights from Italy

In late June 2025, legal minds from across the world gathered on the shores of Lake Iseo, Italy, for the 8th edition of the Advanced Seminar on International Extradition and the European Arrest Warrant, organized by the European Center for Continuing Legal Education (ECCLE). This two-day event, now an institution in its own right, brought together judges, defense lawyers, academics, and human rights advocates to examine the evolving landscape of extradition law.

From discussions on EU case law and procedural safeguards, to hands-on workshops and analysis of controversial extradition requests — the seminar was packed with critical content. Topics ranged from how to challenge extradition in politically sensitive cases, to the misuse of legal tools like the Red Notice system, to the global implications of recent high-profile decisions involving whistleblowers, dissidents, and exiled businessmen.

A standout feature of the event was its dynamic format: no dull lectures here — just interactive sessions, simulations of court proceedings, peer commentary, and real-world case studies.

We’re proud to share that four of our legal experts were featured among the international speakers:

  • Dmytro Yarovyi, known for his cross-border defense work and Red Notice challenges;
  • Tarek Muhammad, who brought regional expertise on extradition and human rights in MENA countries;
  • Melisa Kurter, a U.S. extradition attorney with firsthand litigation experience before both U.S. and European courts;
  • Kristina Abdel Ahad, a global law consultant specializing in asylum and politically driven prosecutions.

    Together, they contributed strategies and insights based on real cases — including how to document risk of torture, present legal arguments rooted in international norms, and counter diplomatic pressure in politically motivated extradition requests.

Why Extradition Law Still Demands Attention in 2025

While treaties and legal frameworks evolve, the human impact of extradition remains deeply personal and often traumatic. In many cases, individuals risk being sent to jurisdictions where fair trials cannot be guaranteed — or where their basic rights may be violated. For American citizens and residents, especially those with international ties or dual nationality, these risks are real and growing.

Our legal team helps clients navigate extradition cases with clarity, strategy, and urgency. Whether you’re facing a foreign warrant, a Red Notice, or political persecution masked as criminal prosecution — we bring global legal experience to your defense.

We stand ready to assist you or your loved ones with discretion, expertise, and a steadfast focus on justice.
